Born in NYC, Landon graduated form the University of Virginia with a major in American Studies. After studying photography at the
School of Visual Communication at Ohio University, where he was awarded the National Geographic internship, Landon Moved back to
NYC to freelance in 2003.
In 2006 Photo District News selected Landon as one of 30 emerging photographers to watch.
Landon contributes regularly to such publications as The New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated and Saveur. He has
completed assignments for National Geographic, Life, Smithsonian, and US News and World Report among others.
Organizations such as Pictures of the Year International, The Best of Photojournalism, American Photography, The Magenta
Foundation, The New York Times, and Photo District News have recognized his work.
Here is an "artist's statement" that Landon Nordeman wrote when selected for Photo District News in 2006
When I make pictures my goal is to photograph with instinct, and to tell a story with each image. To me, the act of taking
pictures is a never¬ending discovery of life; in other words, I am experiencing the world and translating my experience with a
visual record. To me this is what makes photography so much fun, and it is why I became a photographer‹so that I could keep exploring.
The images themselves are like the evidence that you leave behind they're like clues to the puzzle that you make as you go and
if someone else can find meaning in those clues you've left, then you've been successful.
To me there are many moments which can tell a story, in which something meaningful is revealed about a person or a place or an
event. I believe that pictures exist everywhere, and that often a small detail or a simple gesture can reveal the true nature of
a subject, and can, in fact, transcend what was actually happening at the time the picture was made. Making those kinds of
pictures is the most fun of all.
